BI Report Developer

Role

The BI (Business Intelligence) Report Developer will participate in the development, maintenance, and optimization of the BI-based reporting application for the Knoa product line. The BI Report Developer will actively participate in the analysis of design specifications, development, and technical and user documentation and requirements surrounding the BI-based reporting applications.

The following are the key attributes required for this role:

• Strong attention to detail
• Strong understanding of BI reporting and data analysis
• Good knowledge of SQL and query optimization
• 1-3 years of experience developing BI reports and dashboards
  • Business Objects and/or MicroStrategy preferred
  • Experience in other BI tools a plus
• Experience with developing commercial applications, with high standards of usability and performance
• Experience writing technical documentation
• Experience in gathering and analyzing requirements
• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Business

Job Responsibilities

1. Report and dashboard development
   • Build and maintain reports and dashboards in Business Objects and MicroStrategy around Knoa data to satisfy existing use cases and requirements
   • Contribute to use case and report requirements gathering
2. Maintenance of BI metadata models of the Knoa data in various BI tools
   • Contribute to data warehouse design based on reporting requirements and query optimization considerations
   • Maintain data warehouse model in Business Objects and MicroStrategy (tables, dimensions, facts, metrics, filters, etc.)
3. Documentation of Knoa's BI solution
   • Document technical designs
   • Contribute to report and dashboard specifications
   • Contribute to user guides
4. Expansion of Knoa's BI use to take advantage of all available features, such as:
   • Engage in new BI technology
   • Customize tools via SDK
5. Input to Knoa product design, requirements, and roadmap
   • Collaborate with various groups within and without Knoa to collect, analyze, and provide input to requirements, product design, and development roadmap
   • Analyze customer needs and requests, and develop use cases and designs to extend the reporting capabilities of the product

Projects Portfolio

The following are the types of development projects for this role:

1. Standard BI Reporting (product development) – development of reports and applications based on the Knoa data using Business Objects and MicroStrategy, which will be offered out of the box as part of the Knoa product
2. Improve performance of existing BI reports – analysis of queries and database schema and exploration of BI-specific query-tuning properties to make recommendations for improvements to query performance, and to implement those changes.
3. Customer-specific BI Reporting – development of reports and dashboards for demos and prototypes to seize sales opportunities with Knoa prospects or to propose new product offerings. Upon evaluation, some of these applications may be rolled into the standard product line.
